From Parisian ateliers to a colour-drenched apartment in Dijon, former fashion designer Amalia reveals how she turned a grey northern-facing living room into the warmest room in the house.

Where are we, and how did you end up here?

We are in the heart of Dijon, in Burgundy, about an hour and forty minutes from Paris. I actually grew up here before moving away for my career. I’m a former fashion designer who worked for French luxury houses including Céline, Isabel Marant and Sonia Rykiel. After the birth of my son, Georges, I decided to start sharing another side of my creativity on Instagram.

During Covid, my husband Antoine, our son and I decided to come back to Dijon and build our family life here. Today, I create content around interior design, renovation, DIY projects and family life, always with a strong love for colour and beautiful spaces.

Our apartment is located in a beautiful late 19th-century building in the historic centre. When we bought it, it was completely untouched, and we decided to renovate it from top to bottom to create a home that truly reflects who we are.

Describe yourself in one sentence.

I’m a creative person who finds happiness in colour, family life and designing spaces where everyday moments become beautiful memories.

What do you love most about your home?

Without hesitation, our living and dining room. It's a large, open space where we spend most of our time together as a family.

When designing it, I wanted it to be as welcoming for my three-year-old son as it is for us. Everything is accessible to him, from his toys to the books he loves. It's a space designed to encourage creativity, freedom and family life. Soon, the walls will also be filled with his artwork, which makes it even more special.

What was your thought process behind your colour palette?

Choosing the colours probably took longer than anything else in the renovation.

Dijon can feel quite grey during the winter months, so I wanted our home to bring warmth, light and joy all year round. Our living room faces north, which made colour selection even more important.

After months of testing, observing and reflecting, I realised I naturally gravitate towards warm colours: buttery yellows, soft pinks and warm ochres. They're the colours that feel the most like me.

Which colours did you choose, and what drew you to them?

Three colours really define the apartment.

K150 — Buttercup became the main colour throughout the home. It's a soft buttery yellow that instantly brings warmth and light to every room. It almost feels like being wrapped in vanilla ice cream.

K59 – Parfait completely stole my heart. It's the colour of our hallway and creates the most beautiful welcome every time we come home. It's soft, powdery and comforting, almost like strawberry milk.

Finally, K01 – Julia is the warm ochre we used on all the woodwork and window frames. It adds depth, highlights the architecture and pairs beautifully with all the brass details throughout the apartment.

What are you most proud of?

I'm incredibly happy with how faithful the final result is to the painted samples. Seeing the colours come to life exactly as I imagined was so satisfying.

I also love that we painted the ceilings the same colour as the walls. It creates a cocooning effect, softens the architecture and allows the light and colours to flow beautifully throughout each room.

Describe your interior style in three words.

Colourful. Joyful. Warm.

What's your best advice for someone planning to repaint their home?

Take your time. Choosing a colour isn't just about following trends, it's about finding colours you'll love living with every single day. Live with your samples. Move them from room to room, observe them in the morning, in the evening, on sunny days and on grey days. The light changes everything. Once you find a colour that truly feels like you, you'll know.

If you could only choose one colour from the Klint palette, which one would it be?

Without any hesitation: K59 — Parfait. My husband didn't let me paint the entire apartment with it but honestly, I would have! It's a beautiful dusty pink that's both calming and full of life. It has an incredible softness while still making a statement, and it works beautifully alongside so many other colours. Its name couldn't be more perfect.
