Klint Homes
Where are we, and how did you end up here of all places?
We lived in Barcelona for a little year to experience something else and find out where we wanted to settle down. This house from the 70's came up for sale, and we instantly knew this was interesting for us, as we had been looking around the area and especially down that road.
We FaceTimed from Barcelona to get a house tour and immediately fell in love with the house - put a bid on it and crossed our fingers as there were several interested. But luckily we ended up here, in the middle of nature and in the same area I grew up.
Describe yourself in one sentence!
Creative, full of ideas, fun and always creating with my mind!
What do you like the most about your home?
Our home has the most amazing placement - the fiord is 100m away, nature is surrounding us. Every day the nature is changing, and we can see it from our windows every morning we wake up. The house itself is full of tiles and bricks, beautiful warm wood and 70s vibe. I love how simple it is, how easy it is to live in, to walk straight from the living room to nature.
What was your thinking behind the colour scheme in your home?
We have been looking a lot into colours from the 60s and 70s. Back in the days I feel the architecture and interior was not as “strict” as it can be today in Scandinavia. In the 60s they used a lot of colourblocking, combining colours that are not in the same tone but opposite each other, which makes each colour stand more out. That is why we chose a bright blue together with a warm beige and green with red.
Which colours did you choose and what attracted you to them in particular?
We wanted to enter our home being welcomed by bright colours that make you happy. We chose bright blue 60 — Fiji as the primary colour, and it feels like walking in a cloud. For our bedroom we have chosen 54 — Maraschino on our built-in cabinets - the dark cherry-red really stands out, and it looks amazing together with the original silver handles on the cabinets from the 70s. We wanted to make the colours stand out from each other so we chose 115 — Pistachio on the walls - gives a calm feeling to sleep in and looks cute against the cherry-red. I mean, it makes me dream every night of cherry-pistachio ice cream!
What were you most satisfied with?
Honestly, I love all the rooms as they each have a different vibe. I quite like the staircase, walking down the blue bright space. I also like the finish of the glossy paint on the cherry-red cabinets.
Describe your decor style in three words!
Personal - I love decoration with a vintage find, finding unique pieces or buying handmade little things that make our space feel curated.
Warm and woody - one of the things we use the most in our home is wood, on the walls, the cabinets, the ceiling, the furniture, it is timeless adds warmth and makes your home comes to live through the structure of the different wood and finish. I mean, Is there anything, any colours or fabric that doesn’t suit wood?
What’s your best tip for anyone who wants to repaint?
I always have been drawn to saturated colours, so for us it has been important not to go “to bright” when choosing colours for rooms. I like when the room gives you a feeling when walking in, and colours definitely support that, so when choosing a A more saturated colour, it can give a feeling of being “hugged” by the room. My best tip is to be courageous when choosing colours, do it fully not just one wall but give it all - paint the whole room, dare to paint the ceiling, dare to paint it dark! It will open up another feeling when being brave with colours and not just the safe tones our smaller surfaces.
Another quite important tip is - yes be brave BUT make sure to choose the right tone for the room, try the swatches in different light, sun, shade, maybe it is better in rooms facing north or even go a bit darker if the room faces south?
Which would be your favorite colour from the Klints colour palette if you had to choose just one?
67 — Rioja, which we used for our kitchen. The perfect burgundy if you ask me! Not to warm, not too brown, just the perfect tone!
