Klint Homes
Where are we, and how did you end up here of all places?
We are in my and my family’s summer cottage, a 62 m² wooden house from 1957. The house is located on Sjællands Odde on the northwest coast, between Kattegat and Sejerø Bay. The house has undergone a bigger renovation in the last year with new kitchen, and wall colours.
Describe yourself in one sentence!
Interior designer and stylist.
What do you like the most about your home?
It is a sanctuary without obligations. In the small cottage there is room for peace and quiet with family and friends. We have decorated our sanctuary with coordinated colours and beautiful finds that match the style of the house.
What was your thinking behind the colour scheme in your home?
The colours in the summer house are a mix of inspiration from Nordic tones and a bit of a Swedish wilderness atmosphere. The colours should reflect the surroundings and the big, luscious garden visible through the windows, a natural, saturated colour palette. That's why I chose the warm, calm shades of yellow, green and pink for the walls, and then used red and orange as accent colours.
I especially love the combination of the yellow wall colour in the living room / kitchen together with red and burgundy as the lamp above the kitchen table.
Which colours did you choose and what attracted you to them in particular?
For the wood paneling, we landed on 48 – Radiance, which has this perfect balance between a bright and warm yellow. I tested many yellow tones, but Radiance had the clarity I was looking for. It feels soft and sunny without being too much, and it works beautifully with both the garden’s greenery and our new kitchen in oak and natural stone.
In the kids’ room, we used 151 – Bowie, a bright orange. It brings such joyful energy and really pops, it gives the whole house a bit of a lift and contrasts so nicely with the more muted tones in the rest of the space.
Our bedroom is painted in 78 – Mon Chéri, which I love because it’s not too pink. There’s a hint of blue in it that gives it a calm, sophisticated feel.
For the guest room, which is quite small, we chose 33 – Lush, a gentle green that reminds me of pistachio ice cream.
What were you most satisfied with?
The whole colour palette in total. I love the orange 151 – Bowie in the children’s room, together with the yellow 48 – Radiance in the kitchen / living room
Describe your decor style in three words!
Nordic, vintage from 60-70, with a twist of modern design.
What’s your best tip for anyone who wants to repaint?
I work with interior design and styling on a daily basis. For me, it was important to furnish the summer house according to its architecture and building style. That is why the aim was also to find a lot of recycled finds and design classics from the 1960s-70s. If you look around the summer house, you can't help but notice the colours and the different wooden furniture. I think the different types of wood give warmth and coziness to the summer house. The frames are relatively calm without too many bright flashy colours, so the mix of wood types is not noisy.
The colours in the summer house should be natural and in a saturated colour scale. Therefore, the choice fell on the warm, calm shades of yellow, blue, green and pink for the walls, and brighter colours as accents in furniture, prints in pictures, etc.
Which would be your favorite colour from the Klint's colour palette if you had to choose just one?
More green colours.
