Where are we, and how did you end up here of all places?
We’re in my apartment in the heart of central Copenhagen, which I’ve called home for nearly eleven years. It’s a rental I stumbled upon all those years ago and instantly fell for - thanks to its location and hidden potential. Over time, it’s become my personal escape cage, the heart of countless parties and dinners with friends. Now I live here with my husband and our maltipoo.
Describe yourself in one sentence.
Eclectic fixer.
What do you like most about your home?
In the chaos a big city can bring, this space offers me a calm, safe haven. Here, I can kick off my shoes and rest my feet on the table - it’s peace in the middle of it all.
What was your thinking behind the colour scheme in your home?
I wanted to highlight the natural charm of the apartment, which was built in 1770. Embracing its historical character and quirky corners felt more authentic than working against them. After living here for so long, I know how the light moves throughout the day and how little natural light we get during Nordic winters. That awareness helped guide my colour choices to create a warm, liveable atmosphere year-round.
Which colours did you choose and what attracted you to them?
We took some well-considered risks! In the bedroom, we had these gorgeous green satin curtains and decided to lean into that by using three different shades of green 88 — Ebba, 115 — Pistachio, and 91 — Retro. The effect is like waking up in a forest every morning (we’re romantics at heart).
The living room, being a passageway with almost no natural light, was trickier. After many swatches, we went bold with a deep red ceiling in 54 – Maraschino to create the illusion of height, paired with a warm-toned white 87 – Florence on the walls to let our art and funky furniture take center stage. For the kitchen, we chose pink 59 — Parfait - my favorite. I’ve always loved how pink reflects and plays with light, creating a soft, nurturing ambiance. Maybe it even reminds me of being in the womb? All the shades we chose were inspired by travels to European castles and palaces.
What were you most satisfied with?
Honestly, the green bedroom. Those three shades play so beautifully together - it feels like a fairytale. I highly recommend experimenting with multiple tones from the same colour family; the payoff can be magical.
Describe your decor style in three words.
Decadent, playful, practical.
What’s your best tip for anyone who wants to repaint?
Lighting should be a key factor in your decision-making. Consider the room’s potential and use that as your starting point. Don’t get too stuck on what things look like elsewhere - use that as inspiration, but adapt it to your space. And just go for it! You can always repaint if it doesn’t feel right (you won’t really know until you’re finished anyway). Be a perfectionist with masking to get clean lines. Invite a friend, grab a beer, blast some music — it’s therapeutic.
If you had to pick just one favorite colour from the Klint palette, which would it be?
It might sound boring, but 38 — Cedar a beige-pinkish shade - is honestly perfection. It’s warm and cool, light and dark all at once. It works anywhere, especially for those hesitant to try bolder tones.
