Mette Norrild is all about colour and creativity. She works in marketing and communication and lives with her family in a 70's house on Fyn, where she expresses her style through playful and thoughtful colour combinations. Where are we, and how did you end up here of all places?

We’re in my home, on the island of Fyn in Denmark. I ended up here because I fell in love with the light, the layout of the house and the possibilities it offered to our growing family.

Furthermore, the area has everything we need as a family with small children – and my family lives close by.

I’m a colourful soul with a passion for beautiful interiors.

What do you like the most about your home?

That it reflects me – joyful, playful, full of contrasts and character. It makes me happy every single day.

What was your thinking behind the colour scheme in your home?

I don’t really have a strict plan – I follow my gut and choose colours that spark joy and energy. For me, it’s about creating a home that feels alive and inspiring.

Which colours did you choose and what attracted you to them in particular?

I’ve used deep red 54 — Maraschino and blue 60 — Fiji in the bedroom – I love pairing unexpected tones together. I’m drawn to colours with personality, ones that make a statement without shouting. I also love the theory of unexpected red. The red door gives that extra touch to the room, and makes it exciting for the eye to look around.

The ceiling is blue because I thought it would be lovely to wake up to a blue sky. The walls are kept in a neutral yet warm tone 51 — Biscotti is the name. In my daughter’s room, I used 116 — Belle and 125 — Rosebud on the walls and ceiling. She’s five years old and wanted a more colourful room – and she loves all things pink. So 125 — Rosebud is just perfect! The panel and door are painted with 123 — Diana, which makes the room more playful.

What were you most satisfied with?

That both rooms have their own vibe, but the whole home still feels cohesive. The colours guide the mood – from energising in the kids’ room to soothing in the bedroom – and that balance really works.
