Klint Homes
Where are we, and how did you end up here of all places?
We’re at my home, our beautiful Dutch dike house in the North part of Amsterdam: surrounded by nature with the city around the corner - a dream came true!
Describe yourself in one sentence!
Good vibes only!
What do you like the most about your home?
I love the fact that the house was build in 1936 and that you can still feel that: we kept all the original elements of the house. I love a place with history, a home that tells a story. Besides that, I love our split-level living space: since it’s a dike house, the living room is located above the kitchen, and the front room (painted in Klint) is next to that. It’s so playful. We spent so much time in all living areas!
What was your thinking behind the colour scheme in your home?
I really felt my heart and my intuition. I wanted outspoken colours, but also colours that would be long-lasting and fun for a longer period of time. A little bit retro, but still fresh. Not too trendy. A warm home, that feels ‘gezellig’ (Dutch for cosy & nice). I played around in InDesign to see how everything would look together. But most of all, it was a gut feeling.
Which colours did you choose and what attracted you to them in particular?
Currently, I love purple! So there’s lilac to be fount in my walk in closet and the bathroom. Butter yellow brights up the slightly darker kitchen. And I love the cinnamon Klint colour, K108 — Lungo in the front living room! Recently, I painted the other bathroom buzzing green, a new favorite, K91 — Green Delft.
What were you most satisfied with?
The butter yellow kitchen: it feels so warm, fresh and sunny at the same time
Describe your decor style in three words!
Dutch, Danish and British!
What’s your best tip for anyone who wants to repaint?
Do EVERYTHING! Not just one wall, also the ceiling, the doors and all the woodwork. It’s so much more calming and cooler.
Which would be your favorite colour from the Klints colour palette if you had to choose just one?
That would be K114 — Aloha. I think this type of blue matches so many homes, yet it’s super daring and outspoken!
