Klint Homes
Where are we, and how did you end up here of all places?
I always say I live in “suburbia”, which is kind of like hitting the nail on the head. We live close by the city (Amsterdam), in a very family oriented town a stone’s throw from both nature (the beach and woods) and the city. I grew up around here. After years of living in NYC, we moved back to The Netherlands because I was pregnant. After about 2 years in Amsterdam post our return, we decided to travel around a bit and finally “settle” closer to family so we could benefit from all the advantages of having our safety net close by while the kids are still little. We definitely have plans for moving abroad again, but probably not in the near future.
Describe yourself in one sentence!
I’m a creative strategist, wife, and mom of two, always finding beauty in the details — whether it’s making family memories, curating spaces, shaping brands or creating a home filled with colour and character.
What do you like the most about your home?
I love that we finally have space! Which was one of the main reasons for us to decide to move out of the city. As well as a garden, I’m very much all for indoor/outdoor living (just not in winter). The house was not our number one pick architecturally, we really wanted a home from the 1930's or older but ended up purchasing one from the 1960's. But with our mainly vintage furniture it actually works really well and the colours we added to the walls really gave it that character we were missing.
What was your thinking behind the colour scheme in your home?
I wanted to keep the main living spaces quite neutral as we have some designer and vintage furniture pieces that are really statement. I wanted them to “speak” more so than our walls, so we decided to go for a warmer white. For the boys’ rooms I really wanted to go bolder, but give both of them really a vibe of their own.
Which colours did you choose and what attracted you to them in particular?
The living room and other common spaces, as well as our office are drenched in a warmer toned white 27 — Oatmilk. Our oldest, Parker (5), picked the light blue colour 18 — Mist himself - he’s at that age he loves to take control and he really took the time to pick between a few options after we put some of the sample stickers on his walls. Our youngest, James (1), has a vintage green 39 — Sage in his bedroom, it feels cozy and playful at the same time! For our dressing room I wanted to go super classic with sage green 43 — Serene as the room just has built-in wardrobes, a dresser and an old oil painting. So I wanted to add something special to elevate the room, but keep it classic so we still love it in a few years time. The boys’ playroom has a soft yellow 82 — Limón, it’s a tiny room but I wanted to make it fun nonetheless and this understated color does just that.
What were you most satisfied with?
I actually have zero doubts about any of the colours I picked but was most impressed by what a warmer toned white can do versus pure white. It really depends on the home and the amount of light you have in the rooms, but no matter what type of weather or hour of the day, the warmer white feels super cozy.
Describe your decor style in three words!
Vintage, timeless, warm.
What’s your best tip for anyone who wants to repaint?
GET SAMPLES. Honestly it makes a world of difference to live with the colours for a few days. And I’d always opt for the more classical shades so you don’t get tired of it. I wouldn’t really focus on the colours that are necessarily on trend, but very much on the ones that feel true to you and your interior style. Just as in clothing, I do love colour every now and then but the basics are usually in neutral shades.
Which would be your favorite colour from the Klints colour palette if you had to choose just one?
I would say 27 — Oatmilk. I know white isn’t officially a colour but it’s the base of our entire home. It’s there without being there if you get what I mean.
